Road Warrior 11
The famous Thunder Road Speedway of Barre, Vermont has more than one Road Warrior. Tom Curley is unquestionably No. 1 on the list. However, Don Gove pictured here at a pit meeting, for the Northeastern Go Kart Company is doing his best to continue the tradition of the famed speedway. Don, fifty-two, has spent most of his life at T Road in one capacity or another. Don drove go-karts from 1984 through 1990, when he retired from driving to take up the promotional job for go-karting in Vermont. In 1990, the Northeastern Go-Kart Club was formed with Don as President and with the backing of Bailey Bros. Parts Town an agreement was reached with Thunder Road Inc.
to make T Road the home base track for NEKC. 1991 saw Snap-on Tools of Vermont come on board as a Corporate Sponsor and shortly thereafter The WORLD newspaper. In 1990 Don also started working for Tom Curley at Thunder Road for the opportunity of first hand learning of the secrets for operating a race facility successfully, along with becoming a WKA official in traveling to such tracks as Lowe’s Motor Speedway and Daytona. Whether it’s Tom Curley or Don, they both stress to their competitors, the most important thing a racer can do, is take care of the fans and sponsors, because without them we cannot do what we enjoy. Marvin Galarneau, Don’s Assistant, brought
in from Riverside Speedway in Groveton, New Hampshire, who also shares Don’s passion for racing, Don, and NEKC wishes to thank the following sponsors for the 2005 race season.
